While the 2008 GT by Citroën is still our favorite modern concept from the French brand, the new Cxperience Concept is certainly a close second. It represents Citroën’s vision of a range-topping model with plug-in hybrid hardware wrapped around in a futuristic and spectacular body. The large sedan sits on massive 22-inch wheels and stands out with its bold appearance and rear-hinged doors providing an easy access inside the minimalist cabin.
At the heart of the concept is a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of an undisclosed gasoline engine that can generate between 150 and 200 horsepower (112 and 149 kilowatts), with an additional 107 hp (80 kW) coming from an electric motor. With the power of the two combined, the Cxperience can deliver a total of 300 hp (224 kW). The transversally-mounted eight-speed automatic transmission sits between the conventional engine and electric motor, with the power of the latter being delivered to the rear axle.
It can be driven solely on electric power for as much as 60 kilometers (37 miles) and the battery can be recharged from a conventional socket in only four and a half hours. Switching to a 6.6 kW charger and a 32A socket will reduce the time necessary to fill the battery pack to less than two and a half hours.
At 4.85 meters (191 inches) long, the Cxperience Concept is imposing and comes with a generous wheelbase spanning at 3 meters (118 inches). Corroborated with the smart packaging of the hardware, the concept manages to provide a spacious interior and a large trunk making it suitable for long distances. Citroën mentions the citrus yellow cabin makes use of premium materials and although it looks futuristic, it still pays tribute to the company’s history thanks to the single-spoke steering wheel and a horizontal dashboard design.
Speaking of which, the dashboard is dominated by a huge 19-inch rectangular display described as being the car's 'control center.' It provides the driver access to basically all of the concept's functions and has several split screen modes to allow the front passenger play around with the on-board functions as well.
Citroën will have the Cxperience Concept on display at the Paris Motor Show in a month from day.
