BMW announces new engines for 2-Series, 3-Series and 4-Series, upgrades for 5-Series, M3/M4 and i8
BMW has announced additional engines and equipment options will be available for a wide range of models from March this year.
Starting with the 2-Series lineup, the Coupe and Convertible versions will be offered with the 1.5-liter 3-cylinder petrol unit, generating 136 HP (100 kW) and a maximum torque of 220 Nm (162 lb-ft). This engine can be optionally combined with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission, which enables the 218i Coupe to accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.9 seconds, while the Convertible will perform the sprint in 9.6 seconds. Also from March 2015 the 220d Coupe will be available with the xDrive four-wheel drive system and with the Advantage, Luxury Line, Sport Line and M Sport trim lines.
A new entry-level diesel version called the 214d will be available for the Active Tourer. It will be powered by a 95 HP (70 kW) 3-cylinder diesel engine with a maximum torque of 220 Nm (162 lb-ft). Average fuel consumption is between 3.8 and 3.9 l/100 km and CO2 emission levels are between 99 and 104 g/ km.
Next is the 3-Series, which will be getting a new detuned 2.0-liter diesel powerplant with 116 HP (85 kW) and 270 Nm (199 lb-ft) of torque in the 316d. The Sedan and Touring will accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 10.6 and 11.1 seconds respectively, when fitted with the 8-speed auto.
The BMW 4-Series will also get some new engines. March 2015 will witness the market launch of the entry-level version 418d Coupe that offers 150 HP (110 kW) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. The 420d Coupe, the 420d xDrive Coupe, the 420d Gran Coupe and the 420d xDrive Gran Coupe will receive an improved 2.0-liter diesel with 7 HP (5 kW) and 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) more than before for a peak at 190 HP (140 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft).
From spring of 2015 BMW will be offering the Edition Sport line for the 5-Series Sedan and 5-Series Touring. It features selected exterior and interior options, which “effectively underscore the dynamic character of the upper midrange bestseller”. The Edition Sport will be available for all models, excluding the BMW M Performance variants and will include a leather-covered sports steering wheel, LED fog lamps, the BMW Individual High Gloss Shadow Line, as well as redesigned 18-inch, double spoke light alloy wheels.
The BMW M3 Sedan, the BMW M4 Coupe and the BMW M4 Convertible will gain an extended range of BMW Individual equipment options. From March 2015, there will be a choice of new body colors, while the Coupe will also be available with a range of enhanced leather upholsteries and a color-matched leather-covered instrument panel.
Last but not least, from March this year, the i8 will be on sale with an extended range of standard equipment and new interior design options. These include the Carpo Carum Grey interior design that “impresses with innovative aesthetics and a high-quality appearance” and combines natural leather elements with partially perforated leather surfaces. |
