Peugeot 308 gains 130 HP PureTech 3-cylinder THP engine, does 1,124 miles with a tank of gas
Recently named 2014 European Car of the Year
Peugeot has introduced a small three-cylinder 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine called PureTech e-THP in the second generation 308 hatchback.
Customers can now place an order for a Peugeot 308 equipped with a three-cylinder 1.2-liter PureTech e-THP turbocharged gasoline engine which delivers 130 HP (96 kW). Under the supervision of the authority UTAC (Union Technique de l'Automobile, Motocycle et Cycle), such a variant was tested at the Almeria circuit in Spain and managed to return an impressive 82.5 mpg US (99.1 mpg UK or 2.8 liters / 100 km). The car came with a six-speed gearbox and was driven for more than 32 hours to empty the 51.4-liter fuel tank and in the process it covered a distance of 1,124.7 miles (1,810 km).
Needless to say, in real world traffic conditions the three-cylinder 308 is considerably less frugal but Peugeot says the model represents a "benchmark for its sector for most economical vehicle with a petrol engine." On the diesel side, the French marque has a thrifty 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter BlueHDi with 120 HP (88 kW) which in normal conditions returns 75.8 mpg US (91.1 mpg UK or 3.1 liters / 100 km) and has 82 g/km CO2 emissions.
We remind you the all-new 308 has won the 2014 European Car of the Year award and can be had in a wagon version as well. Peugeot announced this week they will increase production to keep up with a strong demand as they have already received 60,000 orders since the car was shown online last October.
