Bangalore’s CS Santosh, riding a Suzuki, won the two-wheeler category with a time of 9:57.09, ahead of Austrian Helly Frauwallner who rode a Yamaha (10:15.38) and Suzuki’s Suresh Babu (11:31.45).
The 12th edition of the Desert Storm was flagged off from Delhi, with 250 Indian and foreign participants fighting for top honours. The six-day rally traversed through the desert and concluded in Jaipur, covering almost 2,200 kilometres through the dune outback of Sardarshahar, Bikaner, Jaisalmer and Jaipur.
Defending champion Suresh Rana along with favourites Gaurav Gill and Karamjeet Singh had crashed out on Day One of the rally itself after suffering mechanical failures. Sidhu said he had to adopt a conservative approach, ensuring his car lasted for the entire duration of the race. “After those guys were out, I had to keep calm and make sure the car didn’t give up. So I drove conservatively, avoiding making any mistakes,” Sidhu said. |
