Changing the Game: John Diep’s 2008 BMW 335i
We all know how to play the game. Step 1. Find a Car. Step 2. Lower the car and add some wheels. Step 3. Make your car look the same as any other car in the “scene.” But for a select group this isn’t good enough, they don’t like the game or its rules……..so they change them. John Diep took a hard look at his BMW 335i and thought to himself this wasn’t going to be the run of the mill BMW build. Ichi, as he is known to his friends noticed a lot of BMWs all looked the same and really having a passion for the JDM and Euro scene he decided to use a little flare from both to inspire his build. Shooting for an OEM flare, John decided to stick to quality and go for broke with the good stuff right from BMW.
The first step in building his ride included an OEM M3 conversion. Being a DIY kind of guy Ichi began tearing the front end off the car one night after work. The convertible E93 now sported the aggressive M3 front and cowl hood so the next step was giving the car an aggressive attitude and stance to go with the look. Ichi decided the attitude adjustment would start with a set of JIC Cross coilovers. This suspension kept Ichi’s track dreams in sight while providing nice drop. Next came a tune courtesy of JB4 along with the BMS DCI and AA down pipes, the difference was night and day. John was hooked and finished the exhaust with a custom build by Euro Werks with an X pipe and titanium tips.
Typically the BMW community stays pretty conservative, only very few venture outside of the realm and when they do they usually meet harsh criticism from their fellow owners. Clearly Ichi was out to not only receive some harsh comments but also break everyone of their hearts, enter Bob at MadMods and the creamy gray hue of the FJ Cruiser. Tearing the car down once again piece by piece the BMW was coated in the OEM Toyota Sandstorm paint and reassembled. Ichi decided to compliment freshly painted Bimmer with a set of Volk TE37. Flaunting the Mag blue these 18 inch Volks are wrapped in 265/35 and 295/35 Michelin PSS and PS2 tires, this assures a ton of grip while throwing the car into corners and pulling away from lesser cars in the straights. Now, some would say that this doesn’t sound like a bad BMW build at all, in fact it would be hard to see the JDM flavor in the build…….and then you see the trunk.
Yes that’s right, looming over the trunk like a leer jet the Voltex type 2 GT wing ensures the BMW keeps the ass end planted while John tosses it around corners. To help accent the front and add even more rising sun love to the E93 a set of Varis front canards hang off the front end slicing the air apart as the BMW gets up to speed. The whole car was built with John Diep’s taste in mind, not stopping to care about the typically BMW enthusiast or their opinions. Canibeat would like to thank John for letting us take a look at his killer 335i! |
