Automaker says new family of engines will deliver best-in-class fuel-efficiency and performance
Honda has announced a new family of engines with what it has branded 'Earth Dreams Technology' that Honda hopes will deliver best-in-class fuel-efficiency and performance.
The family of engines will cover the entire Honda range and include units sized 660cc, 1.3 liter, 1.5 liter, 1.8 liter, 2.0 liter, 2.4 liter, and 3.5 liters in displacement.
All four-cylinder units get DOHC (double cams) and direct-injection technology to improve fuel-efficiency. The range-topping 3.5 liter V6 will also feature direct-injection and will have its output bumped up to 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS) and 265 lb-ft of torque (359 Nm).
On the diesel side, Honda will be downsizing its current 2.2 liter to a 1.6 liter unit which should match output by means of a high-efficiency turbocharger and reduced friction in the mechanicals.
The Earth Dreams Technology family of engines will also come complemented by other new systems.
There will be new CVT transmissions in three categories for mini, compact, and mid-size vehicles that Honda promises will still deliver fun for the driver.
Also being developed is an electric SH-AWD hybrid system which mounts two electric motors on the rear axle that serve to improve fuel-economy while delivering AWD comfort and handling.
