[update] James May and Richard Hammond have responded to the announcement. Hamster said the following on Twitter: "Gutted at such a sad end to an era. We're all three of us idiots in our different ways but it's been an incredible ride together."
The end of an era for Top Gear as BBC has announced today Jeremy Clarkson’s contract will not be renewed.
Jeremy Clarkson’s contract with BBC will come to an end next month and it won’t be renewed as Tony Hall, the BBC Director-General, revealed today he has taken this decision after meeting personally with Clarkson and Oisin Tymon, the Top Gear assistant producer involved in the fracas scandal.
The future of the show is up in the air at this moment taking into account Richard Hammond and James May recently refused to film the studio parts without Clarkson. In addition, their contracts will also expire next month so it's not known yet what will happen after the end of series 22 of which there are still three unaired episodes that Hall says will eventually be broadcasted. There is still hope for the show as Tony Hall says "BBC must now look to renew Top Gear for 2016" but he admits "this will be a big challenge."
