A prototype of the Renaultsport R.S. 01 was spied undergoing heavy testing in Italy around the Monza track.
Towards the end of August we saw official images of Renault Sport's R.S 01 and now the concept has evolved into a prototype ahead of next year's racing debut in the newly established Renaultsport Trophy one-make championship part of World Series by Renault. The vehicle weighs less than 1,100 kg (2,425 lbs) and benefits from a carbon fiber monocoque which meets LMP1 regulations.
It might wear Renault's diamond logo but at its heart is a V6 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine sourced from the Nissan GT-R tweaked by Nismo which generates 500+ bhp (373 kW) and 600 Nm (442 lb-ft). All that power is transferred to the rear axle through a Sadev seven-speed sequential transmission, helping the track-only weapon reach a maximum speed of more than 186 mph (300 km/h).
Priced at £282,000, the Renaultsport R.S. 01 will be equipped with 18-inch Braid wheels wrapped around in bespoke Michelin tires and is going to feature a double wishbone + pushrod suspension along with 380mm carbon discs matched with six-piston calipers. |
